  • I agree, but if you're going to make them 100% accountable, you need to be willing to give some leeway in methods of discipline.

  • Federal authority for funding of roads is very clear and constitutional. It takes a really convoluted set of arguments to justify the federal healthcare mandate.

  • The Fed's aren't supposed to but the state can pretty much do anything they pass into law. Age of legal alcohol consumption is set by the State, not the Fed's, commerce clause has nothing to do with it. The pressure the Feds use for age of consumption is federal funding for roads.

  • Adrienne - The biggest difference between the US and European nations in this regard is the prevalence of automobiles operated by teens. In 1971, when the voting age was reduced to 18 most states reduced the drinking age to 18 as well.
